Welcome to the Bickerstaffe Record website

Welcome to this new website for the Bickerstaffe Record.

This is really just a test message to get a feel for what I need to do to post, save attachments, receive comments etc.

But while I’m here…….

The Bickerstaffe Record is the local Labour party newsletter for the area covered by Bickerstaffe electoral ward in West Lancashire, England (first ever editor comment: here’s hoping for some international hits). The area comprises the parishes of Simonswood, Bickerstaffe and the currently unparished area of Lathom (though moves to make this area a Parish are well afoot and will be reported on here as well as in the newsletter).

The Bickerstaffe Record is produced quarterly, and has been going for about five years now. It started out as a two page quick briefing on local matters, but interest and local input grew quickly and it is now an 8 pager, with more extensive local news, information, comments, and articles written by local people. Even so, there is a great deal more that could be written about what’s going on in Bickerstaffe, more widely in West Lancashire, and about local government, local politics, and local affairs in general. This website provides the opportunity for the editor and main writer of the Bickerstaffe Record (Paul Cotterill, that ‘s me)) to do just that, but also to give a voice – through the comments facility on the site – to whomever wants it.

So that’ s the preamble. If initial readers of this site have initial ideas on what kind of stuff you’d like to see covered on the site, then please feel free to use the comments facility. Over the next few days I’ll be starting to add content with updates on matters of importance to local people, and if Father Christmas brings a digital camera and if I can understand the technology, some pictures too.

All the best for Christmas, to anyone who reads this, though I guess hits are unlikely until the website’s existence is advertised in the January edition of the Bickerstaffe Record newsletter.
