Being Labour, Cotterill on the Council

The Audit Commission v West Lancs Borough Council

08.28.09 | Comment?

From a new Audit Commission report ‘When it comes to the crunch: how councils are responding to the recession':

‘Demand has increased for housing benfrfit, and for debt and wlfare advice and business support in almost all councils.  This is to be expecte in way 1………….Most councils expect further demand in these areas as wave 2 brings longer-term effects of unemployment.’

Yup, that’s why the Conservative Maladministration at West Lancs Borough Council are cutting the rent and money advice service.  That’s why they’re cutting even further the already decimated regeneration team.  That’s in spite of 12 million qud in disposable reserves.

That would make sense in an alternative universe.

The Audit Commission, in its new report ‘When it comes to the crunch: how councils are responding to the recession:

‘Demand has increased for housing benefit, and for debt and welfare advice and business support in almost all councils.  This is to be expected in wave 1…….Most councils expect further demand in these areas as wave 2 brings longer-term effects of unemployment.’

Yup, that’ll be why the Conservatives supposedly running West Lancashire Borough Council are reducing the rent and money advice service.  Thats why the council has already decimated its regeneration team and is now going to add further cuts.

That makes sense in an alternative universe.
