Cotterill on the Council

Borough for honours scandal quite likely to be totally made up, say experts

06.14.10 | 2 Comments

I would normally be amongst the first to congratulate the West Lancashire Borough Council Chief Executive on the following announcement:

MBE : William John Taylor. Chief executive, West Lancashire District Council. For services to Local Government. (Rufford, Lancashire)

After all, Mr Taylor has carried out his duties, despite having to cope with an appalling Tory administration for the last few years, with great dignity, and no little skill.

But all may not be well. Look at it again:

MBE : William John Taylor. Chief executive, West Lancashire District Council. For services to Local Government. (Rufford, Lancashire)

‘District Council’?

It couldn’t be, could it, that a quiet swap has been arranged.  One full borough status for one MBE?

Now, that would be an honours scandal.

Not that it’s true.  I’m just saying, like, that that’s what people might say.  Hypothetically. I don’t believe it myself.  At all.

Anyway, well done Bill.   Don’t listen to any of these people with their wild conspiracy theories.  They’re just jealous.

ps.  While I’m on, I should also offer my congratulations to:

Professor David Andrew Phoenix. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Central Lancashire. For services to Science and to Higher Education. (Aughton, Lancashire)

Let me make it perfectly clear that I am not accusing Professor  Phoenix of anything at all, but simply offering my congratulations on his reard for services.
