Bickerstaffe Thoughts, Cotterill on the Council

319 double decker update

10.26.10 | Comment?

Continuing the saga of the 319 (St Helens to Southport passing through Barrow Nook), which has gone from being at risk and saved by community action, to being (since 19 August) bigger than before  as a result of community action, here’s a quick update I’ve had in from Lancashire County Council:

On 19 August 2010 [the] Lead Member for Buses had agreed to subsidise the cost of providing a larger vehicle for a trial period of 6 months.

However, as you may be aware, Fairway Travel are revising Service 319 from 28 October 2010 to operate between St Helens and Ormskirk only and will no longer operate to Southport.

In view of this, LCC are arranging to check passenger demand before committing the Authority to providing a subsidy which may no longer be required. Once the new service starts this week and I have received details of the patronage figures I shall let you know the outcome.

And I’ll let you know too.
