Dear resident

Power cut update

I am writing concerning the recent spate of power cuts to the area, the most recent and longest of which came on Wednesday, and of which there have been several in the Bickerstaffe and Ormskirk area.

From what I can establish from engineers at Electricity North West, there are currently two separate problems with the supply.

The first concerns problems with overhead cables, and it is likely that this is what caused the problem on Wednesday.

The second problem is with underground mains.  It appears that a key fuse keeps being blown when it becomes damp, and while the fuse can be replaced as needs be engineers have not been able to determine where water is getting into the system as yet.  They may not be able to do so until the New Year.

It is unclear from the records whether the Heyescroft/Liverpool Road problems have been caused by this underground problem, which has caused problems in Ormskirk, including a lengthy cut last night, but the engineers I have spoken to do not rule it out.

I do of course hope residents get through Christmas Day without a power cut, but Electricity North West can obviously not guarantee this; they have assured me they will do their utmost to get power back on as soon as possible.  It would therefore be sensible to have candles etc. to hand.

In the event of a cut, the number to call is 0800 195 4141.  Alternatively, please call me on 07972 837697 (I am away at family in Manchester) and I will certainly do what I can to assist.

Wishing you a peaceful and, I hope, a well lit and heated Christmas
