Being Labour

A real grass roots view

07.29.08 | Comment?

Below are the verbatim views  (bar a few very small typos) sent to me, in my position as a Labour branch secretary, of a recently joined Labour party member unhappy with the recent behaviour of some Labour MPs.  It speaks for itself.  I quote it in full with the permission of the said new member.

” I recently joined the Party firstly to try to give support to Gordon Brown. I am writing to you as you are my only contact I have to the Party.  The undermining of Gordon Brown by ‘our’ MPs is an absolute disgrace!  Is there any way of feeding back to them to please stop trying to destroy any credibility the Labour Party has. It is their behaviour which deters people like me from committing ourselves to more practical help. e.g. leafletting etc. If they think we are going to put ourselves out while they ‘indulge themselves’ in petty bickering, well we will just continue to stay away.

Gordon Brown has in some ways not helped the situation. However these are understandable stumbles. Our MPs need some discipline. They all sat on their hands over the Iraq fiasco, now they feel free to continue with their own self interest.

If they want member support. Tell them to ‘Get in line, which is behind Brown!”
