Being Labour

Did Gordon use my draft?

09.23.08 | Comment?

Good to see that Gordon did pick up on some of the ideas in my draftin his speech today.

And I’m pleased he picked up on the same revelatory quote as I did the other day, from the shadow chancellor, on short-selling.  It bears repeating: ‘No one takes pleasure from people making money out of the misery of others but that is a function of capitalist markets.’

I really hope we can make that one stick.  John Prescott’s just picked it up on the radio too, though he couldn’t remember the exact phrase – he would if he’d read my blog, silly boy. So it looks like I got one bit of the speech right, and in general it wasn’t a milllion miles from what I’d suggested he might say, though he said fairness where I said social justice.  I liked the bit about fairness being in Labour’s DNA – that was pretty close to what I drafted too.

In  general, I’m satsified. There’s a few more people tonight taking note of the real difference between Labour values and Conservative elitist arrogance, and there’s plenty more where that came from.
