Postal Vote procedure and deadline

03.11.07 | Comment?

If you’d like to register for a postal vote for the Ward and Parish elections on 03 May, you now need to fill in a specific application form. To get this, call Jane Smith or Sylvia Smith in Admin & Electoral Services Manager at West Lancashire District Council on 01695 577177 ext 5013 or email jane.smith@westlancsdc.gov.uk and they’ll send it out to you. Alternatively you can contact Paul, leaving your full name and address, and he’ll get an application form sent out to you. The deadline for new applications to vote by post is 18 April, and for new applications for a proxy vote is 25 April.

If you apply for a postal vote but then decide to vote in person at the polling booth on election day you can still do so but will need to take your postal vote papers with you.

We know, of course, that a few people may get postal votes in order to vote against us in the May elections (though we can’t possibly understand why!). The point in bringing you this information is that we want the highest possible turnout in Bickerstaffe, whatever the result.

The last time we got to vote – in 2003 – Bickerstaffe had by far the highest turnout in the whole of West Lancashire (though only 45%), and we’re keen that Bickerstaffe ‘puts itself on the map’ this time around, as a place where residents really engage in the locality, and express this engagement through turning out to vote on who should represent them. So, in the end, whoever you vote for, please do just vote and give Simonswood, Bickerstaffe and South Lathom a good name.
