30mph won at the school, now for 20mphAs reported in the last edition, we have secured the promise of a 30mph zone for
Hall Lane
in the vicinity of the school, with improved markings, and with the added benefit of a 30mph all the way along
Church Road
. More recently, this promise has been extended to cover
Liverpool Road
from the current 40mph sign to the Stanley Gate.
While a 30mph at the school is a good start, it’s not the end of the campaign. That will come when there is a 20mph zone in place. To this end, the
West Lancashire Road
issues Group (to which Paul Cotterill is Chairman) has adopted as policy the need for a 20mph outside all schools, at least at ‘peak’ hours, and has written formally to the County Council asking it to adopt this as its own policy. It won’t happen tomorrow, but we’ll keep plugging away.
We’ve also noted concerns about the location of the bus stop near the school, and the potentially dangerous ‘squeeze’ when the bus stops next to parent cars, and have asked the County Council to look into an alternative location.
