Top ten politics books what I have read

12.24.08 | 2 Comments

Lists seem very popular at Christmas.

So, mildly inpired by Dave’s excellent analysis of the type of books he used to have to read to get so clever, here for no particular reason is my totally unanalysed list of books I enjoyed in 2008, some new(ish), some newly discovered.

If this list idea proves popular, I may do 10 top ten things I’ve had for my tea in 2008.

In reverse and totally unjustifiable order, we have the ten following books:

10  Colin Hay, Why We Hate Politics (2007)

9  Richard Sennett, The Fall of Public Man (1978)

8  Bob Jessop, The Future of the Capitalist State (2002)

7  Andrew Sayer, Methods in Social Science: A realist approach (1992, 2nd ed))

6  Ken Coates, The Crisis of British Socialism (1971)

5  Hannah Arendt, The Human Condition (1958)

4 Jurgen Habermas, Democracy and the Public Sphere (2005)

3  Ernesto Laclau & Chantal Mouffe, Hegemony and Socialist Strategy (2001, 2nd ed)

2  David Harvey, A Brief History of Neoliberalism (2007)

1  Henry Drucker, Doctrine and Ethos in the Labour Party (1979)
