Being Labour, Breaking News, Cotterill on the Council

Some of these pensioners old enough to be grandparents’, shouts Labour councillor, angry and confused at PC nonsense

This is breaking news, as yet unconfirmed by anybody sensible.

I understand from my sources that Conservative West Lancashire Distict Council has just given a statement to BBC Radio Merseyside today, and read out by the presenter.

The statement apparently concerns banners brought into the Council Chamber by pensioners attendingthe Full Council meeting on Wednesday –  in protest against the decision to withhold travel concessions  from West Lancs residents, despite everyone in the authorities around getting them

The banners/placards were….. wait for it…..

banned for ‘Health and Safety reasons’.

If this is true, I think the words ‘Rubbing salt into the wound’, as well as other less polite terminology, may be appropriate.

Oh, and just as a reminder, this is what the Council’s Chief Executive said recently:

‘when the equality agenda veers towards political correctness, then I think we have a problem.’

Yes, the Council has a problem alright.  In this case it’s less about equality, more about respect.

More details in fuller budget reports to come.
