Being Labour, Breaking News

Not on the buses

04.30.09 | Comment?

West Lancashire Conservative administration’s inability to get round to doing things has been thrown into sharp relief by the short notice withdraw of ‘Click’ bus services in West Lancashire, as reported in the press

My councillor  colleague Neil has every right to be cross on behalf of the people he serves, a good number of whom will be significantly affected by the loss of service, and of course the loss of 40 jobs is a major blow.

It’s also great that our MP Rosie has reacted as quickly as ever and called on the County Council to get into ‘negotiations with other bus operators to fill gaps in service provision left by Click buses’.

But what we should also have been seeing, if the Council had got its act together, is a new Communty Transport scheme – one recommended by consultants getting on 12 months ago as a key part of a public transport plan – getting involved to cover the gaps, either for the short or the longer term.  Sadly, the Council didn’t get round to setting anything up.

The whole story of how the Conservative administration has failed to take its responsibilities seriously, and at the same time risk losing £0.5 million in Department for Transport investment,  has already been covered.  By me.  Here.
