Bickerstaffe Thoughts, Leisure and culture

Bickerstock was just great

07.30.07 | Comment?

Well, Bickerstock is over for another year.  I lost count of the number of the people who told me during the day (and night) that they thought the atmosphere was just right – full but not too full, friendly but well organised etc. etc.

The festival really does now to be part of the ‘scene’ now.  For the first time a number of groups came along with tents, assuming they’d be able to stay overnight as at other festivals.  Plans will have to be made to ‘regularise’ that for next year, but the fact that it happened augurs well for the future.   I’m happy to report that the pitches were left clean and tidy, though in general there as a fair bit of work on Sunday morning to clear the area of remaining cigarette butts.  There was an issue with a few people moving around the horses’ field next door, and we’ll also have to sort that out for next year.

But of course the main thing about Bickerstock is the music.  I’m not even vaguely musical myself, but even I recognised it was really good.  Too many great performances to mention all, but local ‘combo’ Bickerstats deserve a mention for some great afternoong vibes, Trez Fez for some great flutery (Rachel).  The band that really impressed me and a lot of people I spoke to were The Drusillas (http://www.myspace.com/thedrusillas).  For oldsters like me it was mighty impressive to see so much talent in people so young.

So congrats to all involved – esp. Rachel (getting stuff sorted) and Paul (music and his idea in first place) and Holly (brilliant marketing) and Paul (t-shirts and stalls and keeping people on straight and narrow more or less) and lots of other people – too many to mention but you know who you are, and not forgetting the Bickerstaffe Bikers who cook a mean burger………………

Oh and money made for Hettinga House – final calculation not done yet.

And so on to the Bickerstock 2008 plans
